IWGT’s favs for 2011

Something is ending and something new is beginning, here are iwannagothere’s favourites from 2011.

The Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre was a huge hit with us mainly because its in the middle of nowhere yet the effort & creativity envolved was immense. It’s located in Hjerkinn in Norway.

Eating & Drinking is a favourite past-time of the iwannagothere team and Unit was our drinking location of the year. Situated in Toronto its a neighbour hidden gem making it top of our list.

The House Hotel in Istanbul stole our hearts this year mainly because of its gorgeous roof top terrace bar. They just treat you differently than any hotel we have ever heard of or been too. Turkey’s prime location we thinks.

And finally our favourite shopping, very hard to choose but we settle on one.

It’s Vintage and it’s called Carousel, its in Dublin, Ireland. We loved the diverse mix of pleasure, love & attention to detail. Carousel also made us feel just wonderful.

Finally we thought the following Travel Tip is quite important for almost everyone as our Travel Tips Contest Winner Katrina suggested:

There’s many things you need to bring on your travel expeditions but I strongly suggest packing in your own roll of toilet paper… Especially westerners exploring new places cause you never know. Better to be safe than drippy!!

We love everywhere but these items just resonated to us this year.

We wish you a 2012 full of great trips and experiences! icon smile IWGTs favs for 2011

Kensington Market in Toronto posted by bcebas

If you like original, retro and vintage clothes, this is your dreamed place. This market shows the multicultural atmosphere of TO. It was created by newcomers, and right now is one of the “must go” of the city. In addition, it is the best place to buy original and quality food. Whatever you are looking for you will find it here. What’s more, during the summer, they celebrate interesting music festivals so don’t hesitate to visit Kensington.

What do you do on a really warm and sunny day in Toronto?
I think the best way to spend a warm and sunny day in Toronto is to grab your bike and head to the Toronto Island. It’s a short ferry ride from downtown and the island is covered in beautiful bike paths and beaches, with great views of the city and is perfect for a picnic.

toronto21 Toronto by BrettAnd on a raining day?
I love to spend a rainy day in one of Toronto’s many amazing cafes like Moonbeam Coffee in Kensington Market, Manic Coffee on College Street or Future Bakery in the Annex. After that I’d go to the Royal Ontario Museum which always has a new and interesting exhibit going on.

What is the best way to get around in the town?
Although Torontonians love to complain about it, our public transit system is actually really great. It’s the second largest in North America, and will take you wherever you want to go quickly and reliably.

Favourite Place?
It’s so hard to say, but probably Kensington Market. So many great restaurants, cafes, vintage stores, groceries and everything else in between, in one such a small place. The market just has a very creative and interesting vibe to it all the time.

What’s the best plan for a Sunday morning in Toronto?
Go to the Art Gallery of Ontario and spend the hours admiring not only the amazing collections inside, but the actual building itself, just recently redesigned by Frank Gehry last year.
